Pedestrians in Namibia have been warned not to drink and walk after it was revealed police will breathalyse anyone involved in a collision with a vehicle.
In a bid to crack down on alcohol-related road accidents, the Windhoek City Police will start treating pedestrians in the same way as they would drivers, by breathalysing them at the scene of an accident. ?

Police spokesperson Edmund Khoaseb?told The Namibian that most accidents involving pedestrians happen at the weekend,cheap retro jordans,cheap jordans for sale, particularly late at night when people are staggering home from the pub.

According to the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA), between January 1, 2016 and October 4, 2016, 147 pedestrians were killed and 832 were injured on Namibia’s roads. That’s quite high for a country of just two million inhabitants.
A hangover from the German colonial era, perhaps, Namibia is one of the thirstiest nations in Africa. According to the World Health Organisation, only Gabon and South Africa record higher rates of alcohol consumption (although Namibians still tuck away less booze per capita than most European nations).
The capital, Windhoek, is a smart, laidback city known for its colonial-era architecture, interesting street names (think Robert Mugabe Avenue; Fidel Castro Street) and lively watering holes, which, from now on, are perhaps best explored by taxi.

The campaign group Action on Sugar found that 98% of the 131 hot flavoured drinks sold in the big high street chains contained what it called “excessive” levels of sugar.
It named Starbucks’s Hot Mulled Fruit (grape with chai, orange and cinnamon venti) as the worst offender. At 25 teaspoons of sugar it contains more than three times the recommended maximum adult daily intake.
The Telegraph’s findings on salt come ahead of national Salt Awareness Week,cheap air jordans, which is launched on Monday to highlight the danger posed by the high levels of salt used in many processed and pre-packaged foods and ready-meals.
Our investigation has found similarly high levels in foods which are marketed by popular cafe chains as freshly prepared,Kicksokok.com, using natural and healthy ingredients sourced from reputable farms and suppliers.
Caffe Nero, Starbucks and Costa deliberately promote themselves to fashion conscious young people and families looking for tasty and healthy alternatives to those sold by high street burger chains or supermarket snacks.

The Telegraph examined the nutritional information printed on the labels of products sold by the three chains.
We compared that information to the maximum daily intake of salt recommended by the Department for Health.

As well as containing high levels of salt several of the products sold by Caffe Nero, Starbucks and Costa compare badly to similar ones available in high street supermarkets and popular burger chains.

A hamburger from McDonalds contains 1.2g of salt, while the Big Mac contains 2.3g of salt. That compares to Starbucks crocque monsieur panini has 3.1g, just over the half the recommended maximum daily salt intake for adults of 6g.

Health campaigners said many customers would be shocked by the findings and called for more to be done, by both retailers and government,jordans for cheap, to reduce the level of potentially harmful ingredients in cafe foods.
Sonia Pombo, nutritionist and campaign manager for CASH said: “It’s shocking to see reputable coffee shop chains such as Costa Coffee, Café Nero and Starbucks, which portray a healthy lifestyle image, selling these products so high in salt.”
CASH, which is organising Salt Awareness Week, is calling on both food manufacturers and restaurants and cafes to meet stricter salt targets in the fight to save lives.

A Caffè Nero spokesman said: “Caffè Nero is committed to providing suitable choice for all customers – those seeking a tasty treat, healthy options or those with dietary concerns. None of our paninis or sandwiches have salt added to them and so any salt present is found in the ingredients themselves.”
The firm added: “The same goes for our cakes and sweet items - intended as a treat or indulgent purchase. We offer a range of product types from biscuits to muffins, and also a range of portion sizes as well as flavours. As we develop new products we will continue to actively seek to reduce salt, sugar and fat levels where possible.”
Kerry Parkin, Head of Communications at Costa, said: “We take the nutritional balance of our food and drink very seriously and have already taken significant steps to reduce the salt, fat and sugar content of our ranges with the intention to continue to improve the balance of our product offerings.”
She said Costa committed to further reducing the salt content in its food products “whilst ensuring that we do not compromise on their safety, quality and taste” and pointed out that over 80% of its food products meet the Government’s 2012 salt targets.
Sara Bruce-Goodwin, vice-president for product innovation, food safety and quality at Starbucks said: “We’re working to reduce salt and sugar while we continue to meet our customers’ high expectations for consistent flavour and quality.
