“The country was going steady and was quite a good option for the late booking market. People started asking about the deals on offer, and there’s a lot of capacity there,” she said. “But the last bombing was the final straw.”

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) last year released a study that said the tourism industries of countries or cities affected by a terror attack can repair themselves and rebuild in 13 months, on average. Today, David Scowsill, the WTTC president, listed the issues the country must overcome if it is begin to attract visitors again.


“Not only has the country faced terrorist attacks, it is challenged by the Syrian war on its border, the migration crisis and the aftermath of a political dispute with Russia,” he said. “The recent coup may further impact the country’s travel and tourism sector, as travellers will need to be confident of political stability before they return in large numbers.”
