Does the fact that Wenger and Victorinox make knives as well make them fashion watches?:)

Not in my book. How would you define a fashion watch. Gucci? Cartier? Fossil? Skagen?

It's a grey area, but opinions and pics would be nice :)

I read an article a few years ago that the Explorer 14270 was considered highly fashionable for women in certain circles to wear. Does that make it a fashion watch?. Anything featured in GQ magazine is usually worth avoiding. And this sort of thing.

I think fashion watch is term often used to politely say a watch is of a perceived lower quality or not a 'proper' watch (whatever that means). I tend to think of fashion watches as something pretending to be expensive or premium but with a cheap quartz movement in them.

I agree, not fashion .. just because they make accessories for them does not make them fashion watches...

I think the clue is in the title mate, I define fashion watches as those made by companies that don't actually manufacture them, rather they put their name to them, and their main business is, er, fashion (i.e. clothes). Doesn't make them any better or worse than anyone else, although some people on here are clearly unimpressed and would argue that point :tongue:

I've got loads of fashion brands in my collection, including Armani, Fat Face, Fossil, Diesel, Gul, Ted Baker, Nixon, Oakley, and Timberland.

A few of mine, starting with a Ted Baker which was donated to me free of charge by the very generous RWP:

Cartier is definitely not a fashion watch IMO... they are an esteemed and historic jeweller and watchmaker who produce their own movements and have made contributions to watch design and manufacture over their history. They were extremely exclusive in the early part of the 20th century also.

Gucci would qualify in my opinion though in fairness to them they have made some decent watches (ladies MOP bangle watch was a classic ladies watch) but their shoes and suits are arguably better than their time pieces and I think of their attire before I think of their watches.

Any brand that is better known for its jeans than its watches is a fashion piece... Guess, Armani, Versace, Diesel etc

Generally I would expect a fashion watch to contain generic parts and the only significant feature to be the logo of the designer.

Fossil? Hmm not sure they qualify... do they make clothes? I regard them as more of a low end watch manufacturer...

Bremont, Christopher Ward and watches of that ilk I consider pseudo-horology. They say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, and these watches try to imitate the image of the high end...

Of course these are merely my impressions and opinions, please take no offence if you own such items or feel I have judged them harshly. Each thing has its place..
