A majority of YMCAs accept SilverSneakers across the country. In some states, the YMCAs do not participate in the senior fitness benefit program. These include YMCA locations in the following states; Tennessee, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Texas, and Arizona. Gyms that participate in the program enable senior citizens to enjoy benefits such as weights, bicycles, and swimming at a level they can enjoy. SilverSneakers is one of the most sought-after benefits included in Medicare Advantage plans and select Medigap plans. SilverSneakers are partnered with over 15,000 locations, including nationally recognized fitness centers and locally-owned community gyms. And, the best part of it all – it’s FREE!* We have included all the participating locations in our easy-to-search map below. For further details, click on the following link - Ymca SilverSneakers

To find a gym that offers Silver Sneakers near you, start by visiting their website (www.silversneakers.com) and using their gym locator tool. Simply enter your zip code or city/state, and they’ll provide a list of participating gyms in your area. You can also check with your health insurance provider to see if they offer the program or have any partnerships with local gyms. Additionally, ask friends or family members if they know of any gyms in your area that offer Silver Sneakers.

There’s never a perfect time to do anything, so in order to see results, you must make a concerted effort to change your lifestyle and live healthier. Look through the visual at the bottom of this article for ways to stay fit in retirement by utilizing the SilverSneakers program.

Now that you can confidently answer, “What is SilverSneakers?,” it’s time to find out if you’re eligible to enroll. If you’re not sure whether your Medicare Advantage or Medigap plan includes this benefit, talk with a Medicare advisor to find out. They can also help you decide if it’s time to enroll in a new plan, when you can do so and what plan may be best for you.

Original Medicare (Parts A and cool.gif does not cover gym memberships or fitness programs. Since SilverSneakers falls under this category, original Medicare doesn’t cover it. However, gym memberships and fitness programs, including SilverSneakers, are often covered as an additional benefit in Medicare Part C plans. Private insurance companies approved by Medicare offer these plans. Part C plans include the benefits covered by Parts A and B. They also typically have additional benefits like dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage. Some Medigap policies will also cover gym memberships and fitness programs. Like Part C plans, private insurance companies offer Medigap plans. Medigap plans help to cover costs that original Medicare doesn’t.
