One of the main goals of scientists from the construction of the James Webb Space Telescope has been to look into the past and the oldest galaxies in the world. Now, new research has confirmed that in some of its observations, Webb managed to spot some galaxies from 13.4 billion years ago , when the universe was only 350 million years old.

A group of researchers have recently been able to analyze the light from these old galaxies in different wavelengths with the help of spectroscopic methods. By doing this, the specific fingerprint of each galaxy can be determined and it can be confirmed whether the galaxies really date back to the beginning of the formation of the universe or not.

This research says that among the observations made by James Webb so far, four galaxies have a reddening above 10 and two galaxies have a reddening above 13 . In other words, these galaxies have been observed from a point in the universe that was formed less than 400 million years after the Big Bang.

Discovering the Universe's Oldest Galaxies with James Webb is amazing
"For the first time, we have discovered galaxies that existed only 350 million years after the Big Bang , and we can be confident of their astonishing distance," said Brent Robertson of the University of California, Santa Cruz, who was one of the study's principal investigators. "Finding these primordial galaxies in these beautiful and stunning images is a special experience."

Although the current research has not yet reached peer review, it can show us the possible capabilities of the James Webb telescope. The research draws its data from the JADES project, an international effort to use the James Webb instrument to observe parts of the sky previously observed by the Hubble telescope.

Our proposal: The construction of the world's largest radio telescope named SKA has officially started
The advantage of using the James Webb telescope to observe the same parts of the sky as observed by Hubble is to identify galaxies that are only visible in the infrared spectrum . These galaxies have high reddening, that is, their light is more towards the red side of the light spectrum due to the expansion of the universe, and as a rule, the higher the reddening, the older the galaxies.
