A passenger elevator is a type of lift designed to transport people between different floors of a building. Commonly found in commercial, residential, and public spaces, these elevators are powered by electric motors, which raise and lower the elevator cabin through a system of cables and pulleys or hydraulic pistons. Modern passenger elevators are equipped with safety features such as emergency brakes, door sensors, and communication systems that allow passengers to call for help in case of malfunction.

The design and capacity of passenger elevators vary depending on the needs of the building. Smaller elevators might serve residential homes, while larger ones are used in office buildings, hotels, or shopping centers. The cabin is typically equipped with control buttons inside, allowing passengers to select their desired floor, and exterior buttons are available near each elevator entrance. Most elevators also provide information such as the current floor or direction of movement.

The interior of passenger elevators is often designed for comfort and ease of use, with features like soft lighting, mirrors, and anti-slip floors. Accessibility is a key consideration, with many modern elevators designed to accommodate people with disabilities by including features such as audio announcements, braille on buttons, and larger cabins for wheelchairs.
