Please post your favourite misuse of a shorthand term for a sight or location in NYC.

Greenwich is often used to mean Greenwich Village. However, "Greenwich" is a town in Connecticut. If you want to shorthand Greenwich Village, the proper term is "the Village."

Central Park may be "the Park." Every other park uses its full name. (eg, Washington Square Park).

The transportation mechanism that runs underground is the subway, NOT the metro. However, the payment system is called a MetroCard.

There is a huge difference between streets and avenues. Avenues are wide and run north/south. Streets are sided streets and run east-west. If you told a cab driver "5th and 57th" they would know you meant Fifth Ave and 57th Street. But if you were going to an avenue and a street that is lower than 12th, you would be wise to identify street by east or west/avenue, example: 6th and West 10th and they would know you meant Sixth Avenue at West 10th Street.

When you need a break from your day-to-day routine, all you really need is a change of scenery. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to travel half way across the world (even though that would be great). You can make a mini-vaca anywhere you go. Fuck, go camping if that’s what going to help you out.

Anytime you can simply get away, it’ll be good enough for you to recharge your batteries to be able to actually be a productive human being. Pick a place that a couple of hours away, drive there, and spend the weekend doing abso-fucking-lutely nothing.
