One of the best policies of practically all US airlines is the 24-hour change and cancellation policy. American Airlines offers a similar 24-hour flight change policy to its clients so that they can choose quickly and easily if their plans change. The following situations are however covered by the policy:

Regardless of the fare category, American Airlines offers its passengers free, limited itinerary modifications within 24 hours of booking.
Basic Economy tickets won't be refundable or changeable after the initial 24-hour risk-free period.
You can modify your itinerary even after 24 hours, unless you do it on the day of departure, as American Airlines no longer charges a change fee for any fare type, with the exception of Basic Economy.
