The largest Australian analysis of cervical cancers found thatthe current Gardasil vaccine was effective against 77 percent ofAustralian cervical cancers, including human papillomavirus (HPV)types 16 and 18, compared to the global success rate of 71percent.


Using tissue-sampling techniques, a research team from the RoyalWomen's Hospital and Victorian Cytology Service, found that afurther 16 percent of cancers were caused by HPV types 31, 33, 45,52 and 58, all of which can be prevented by the new Gardasil 9.


Gardasil 9 is currently being considered for inclusion inAustralia's national vaccination schedule by the PharmaceuticalBenefits Advisory Committee (PBA).


The PBA is expected to make its decision on whether Gardasil 9,which is already widely administered in the United States and NewZealand, will be allowed in Australia in August.


Kate Bourn, Manager of Screening, Early Detection andImmunisation at the Cancer Council, told Xinhua on Friday that itis paramount for school-aged children to be administeredGardasil.


"It is a highly effective vaccination and can significantlydecrease the chance of developing HPV-related illnesses includingcancer and genital warts," she said.


The new vaccine being considered by the PBA includes nine ofthese types potentially preventing over 90 percent of cervicalcancers, she said.


"However, it doesn't include all cancer-causing types of HPV, socervical cancer could still occur. This is why cervical screening,even for those that are vaccinated, continues to be important,"Bourn said.


Cervical cancer is responsible for the deaths of 270,000 womenglobally each year, mostly in developing countries. Enditem


CANBERRA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Just days after both his summer and long-term Test future were thrown into doubt, Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke is set for a swift return to action.


Clarke withdrew from Australia's five-match ODI series against South Africa after reinjuring his troublesome hamstring in Perth last week.

It's a tight timeline for both Clarke and Australian selectors, with the first Test against India taking place in Brisbane on Dec. 4. But coach Darren Lehmann is giving his skipper every possible opportunity to prove he is ready.


"Obviously with a Test coming up, if he'd get to play that, he' d have to play the Shield game before the Test match to make himself available for that," Lehmann told radio station 5AA earlier in the week.


Clarke's hamstring problem is closely related to a degenerative back issue that has troubled the batsmen since the early stages of his career.


He is currently undergoing 45-minute sessions two times per day on a state-of-the-art spinal machine, called the MedX machine, in an effort to improve his strength, stability, flexibility and endurance.


Clarke has previously described the machine, valued at around 43,000 U.S. dollars, as "a matter of life and death for my career. "

They walked along the museum's central axis, also the axial line of Beijing, and visited Taihedian, Zhonghedian and Baohedian, three main halls of the Forbidden City.


In front of Taihedian, the Hall of Supreme Harmony, Xi and Peng took photos with their guests after walking through the Gate of Supreme Harmony.


During the tour of the ancient palace, Xi briefed the visiting couple on the museum's history, architecture and culture, which received high praise from them.


Taihedian is one of the largest wooden structures in China and the largest hall in the Forbidden City. Emperors of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties held their enthronements and wedding ceremonies in the hall.


Zhonghedian, the Hall of Central Harmony, is a square building with windows on all four sides. Officials would kowtow to the emperor from here before he presided over grand ceremonies in Taihedian.
