Trial of the Challenger

Quest to acquire occupation change item, 'Mark of the Challenger'. Kash says he will tell you who has the Mark of the Challenger, if you manage to kill the medusa, Shyslyssys, and bring forth the old parchment. She lives in a cave in the Neutral Zone, which is between the Elven and the Dark Forests. He advises you to go in parties, for she is a strong enemy who has lived for hundreds of years.

Kaszt: bladedancer, destroyer, gladiator, swordsinger, tyrant, warlord
Faj: Sötét Elf, Elf, Ember, Ork
Minimum szint: 35
Ismételhető: nem

Beginnign Notes: You cannot complete this quest until you are level 36. You will need a minimum of 9000 adena to complete this quest. This quest is significantly easier if you wait until you are around level 40 to complete it.

This quest begins with Kash who can be found across from the warehouse in Dion. When you accept this quest you will be asked to get Shisrashi's Ancient Scroll. Shisrashi is a medusa like creature that can be found, with her Cave Basilisk minions, NE of The School of Dark Arts in a Cave. Just look for the waterfall on your map, the cave is on the south side of that hill and can be entered from the Dark Elf or Light Elf side of the lake.

Before you go running off to kill Shisrashi, do you have a ranged attack? If you don't it would be worth investing in the cheapest bow and arrows you can buy (you can even buy the starter bow for around 700 adena if you want). The reason for this is that many the mobs in this quest have guardian mobs that are signifcantly slower than they are.

So go to the cave, use whatever ranged attack you have to pull Shisrashi, run back a bit, and kill her. You may have to move back a couple times to finish her off, but she shouldn't be too hard. When she dies you'll get a key and a chest will appear, click on it and open it with your key. You'll get the scroll and a small amount of adena. All this time avoid the guardians, run around, they are slow.

Go back to Kash, he'll give you a letter of introduction and send you to find Martien in Giran. If you did the Get a Pet quest you'll know where to find him, but if not, he's at the entrance (the bridge entrance) on the West side of Giran, standing next to the first building.

Martien asks you to head off to Floran and kill a mob named Gorr. Gorr is found in a cave. Look at the triangle of roads south of Floran on your map, on the western edge of the triangle is where you need to go. There is a hill to the West, run to the top, then down the other side, Gorr's cave is on the Western side of this hill. The /loc is X:5185 Y:185457. Her cave is much smaller, so stand at the entrance and plink Gorr with your ranged attack, run out of the cave, kill Gorr, you'll get the quest item (Watcher's Eye1 or some such). Return to Martien. Note: Since the next mob you need to kill is in the area, I tried killing her to see if I could save a trip, it doesn't work, so don't bother.

Martien then wants you to go back to the same area and kill Braham. Remember the triangle of roads? You can see Braham's cave from the eastern edge at /loc X:-19822 Y:185419. This one is kind of different. Again, you should stand in the doorway and plink Braham and run out to kill her, but this time only a few of her guardian mobs will follow you. If a guy named Raldo doesn't immediately appear upon killing Braham, kill the basilisks that followed too, then run back in and kill them one by one until Braham respawns (they will not help each other). When she respawns, plink her, run out and kill her. By now Raldo should spawn (you'll already have Watcher's Eye2 by then), it seems unless you kill some of the guardian mobs he sometimes doesn't show (he didn't for me).

Talk to Raldo, he'll tell you that Kash and Martien are liars and have been making you run around for their own ends. Additionally you have caused some damage so you have to go to dwarf land and talk to Elder Filaur to make up for it. If you run to the entrance of the Wastelands and use an escape scroll you should end up in Gludin next to the Gatekeeper. This is 9000 adena round trip, so make sure you have the adena for it. Go to the Dwarven Village and talk to Filaur who is in the building across from the dwarven Gatekeeper with four other dwarves.

Filaur will tell you that you need to kill a mob in the deepest part of the Mithril Mines. If you don't have a map of Elmore handy, now would be a good time to buy one. Talk to the Gatekeeper and have her port you to the North Coast (costs about 700 adena) then follow your map to the Mithril Mines (if you know how to get there by running through the Abandonned Mine, you are welcome to go that way, if you don't know, port, trust me). Note: While in the mines, many of the mobs are agressive, however you can outrun most of them easily and even if you have to stop and fight you shouldn't have much of a problem, even vs. 10 or more.

You will have a yellow dot on your radar indicating where you should go, this is just about worthless since you are out of range for most of the trip. Navigating the mines is pretty easy, just keep going in and down, when you get to the giant circular room, jump to the bottom, take the only way out, head to the left (downhill) at the only place you have a choice (if you go the wrong way, you'll end up back in the circular room). Head into a big, cavernous area. Go up (down is toward the water) and navigate the bridges until you get to the final 'island' with tons of Succubus Turen and Succubus Tilfo. Your quest mob will be there, Succubus Queen. She has one guardian which should not be any problem. If there are no mages kiting the whole island worth of succubi (I'd be surprised if there weren't) clear the aggressive mobs around them, then kill the Queen and her guard. Now, your yellow dot may disappear at this point, but again, you are not done until Raldo appears. It may be that he'll only appear at night, but since you can't tell time, just sit down and keep killing the Succubus Queen as she spawns (I ended up going back to town and talking to Filaur after my third kill or so, meaning I had to run back out to the mines!). Note: Sometimes the Queen and her minion wander off the island and fall down into the water below, if you suspect this is the case, jump down and kill them, then run back up and around to the island where she spawns.

When Raldo does spawn, speak with him and he will give you the Mark of the Challenger. Congrats, you are done.
