Additional Light Barrier for Infrared Stopwatch

Additional light barrier to the kit "Infrared Stopwatch B232". By means of this extension it is possible to operate the infrared stopwatch B232 with 2 light barriers: 1 barrier each at the start and finish. Operating voltage: 9V=.
Mounting instructions:

Assemble the board according to the parts list and assembly print. Please observe in particular the following:
1) The elcas have to be inserted into the board in the right direction. The negative pole of the elca is marked with a bar.
2) The diodes and zener diodes are to inserted into the board in the right direction. One side of these components is marked with one or several rings (see drawing).
Connect the receiving module with the board according to the drawing by using short wires. Furthermore, please observe that a black tube must be put in front in case of strong solar radiation or very small bodies (whose times shall be recorded) according to the description in the basic kit B232.

Setting into operation:

Connect the receiving module with the receiving module in the basic kit B232 in parallel by means of a cable. Cable’s lengths of up to 50 meters are possible. In countries where the CE-regulation applies, however, only cable’s length of up to 3 meters may be used (see "Measures concerning the CE-conformity"). Please use a cable that is stable enough (3 conductors) which should be shielded (against interfering impulses from the outside). Connect the shielding of the cable with the negative pole of the battery of the receiver. Then mount the infrared transmitter opposite the receiver as described in B232, too.
Operation as described in the basic kit B232. Activate the receiver by pressing the key S1. As 2 light barriers are connected in parallel then, the stopwatch will be triggered by one of both infrared light barriers (that one which was interrupted first). When using 2 light barriers proceed as mentioned in the description of the basic kit B232 under "circuit". Following the "flying start" with the first light barrier, turn the receiver on again by pressing S1 so that the watch will stop when the 2 light barrier will be interrupted.

Technical data

Operating voltage + current: transmitter: 9V= < 100mA, Receiver: 9V= < 20mA
Board dimension: Receiver approx. 54 x 25 mm, Transmitter approx. 54 x 28 mm
Range of the light barrier: approx. 8 m

Circuit description

The system consists of an infrared transmitter and an infrared receiver. A voltage impulse is produced in the infrared receiving module, if the light barrier is interrupted (if somebody walks through the invisible ray of light). This impulse starts or stops the stopwatch (if the watch is operational, that means, if the key S1 was pressed before).

Safety Instructions for B232Z

These operating instructions belong to this product. They contain important instructions for operation and handling. Please keep this in mind when passing the product on to another person.
This kit is not intended for persons under 14 years (it has no CE approval as a children's toy).
Never expose this kit to high temperatures, strong vibrations or humidity.
Setting into operation has to be done by adequate qualified personnel in order to guarantee the safe operation of this product. The operating voltage may only be drawn from a battery.
The regulations for prevention of accidents for electrical installations and operating material of the industrial employer's liability insurance association are to be observed in industrial facilities.
In schools, training centers and do-it-yourself workshops, the operation of this appliance is to be supervised reliably by trained personnel. Never place the appliance close to combustible or inflammable materials (e.g. curtains).
We do not assume any liability for material damage or personal injury caused by non-compliance with the operating instructions and these safety instructions as well as for its consequential damage.

Intended use

The system consists of an infrared transmitter and an infrared receiver. A voltage impulse is produced in the infrared receiving module, if the light barrier is interrupted (if somebody walks through the invisible ray of light). This impulse starts or stops the stopwatch (if the watch is operational, that means, if the key S1 was pressed before).

Maintenance + Disposal

This kit is maintenance-free. If this device has to be disposed of one day, please hand it over to the special waste collection where "electronic systems" are collected, i.e. where computers, television sets etc. are disposed of, too. Please do not dispose of with the household waste!
