*The edge of this summer-scented Wyld place is getting closer, I'm getting more and more tired and my suffering haunts me further. Those high-pitched screams of the Dreamthings don't help much.*

<Yeah, they've helped us. This was in my vision. But still, there's no way we can protect them from the Empty Ones if they see them as obstacles. And all this betrayal of their kind is too complicated... how should I know, Griffin? They are different from us.>

*But when their reply arrives to White Raven's words, I snort in disdain, even though the simple act of breathing is painful enough. I turn my scorched muzzle towards them, especially the small thing.*

- /Gar/ You said you wanted protection from the Leeches, have you changed your mind? And you couldn't spot a Leech if one was standing right in front of you, fool!

<And Two of them are standing near you!>

*Of course I know they won't understand anything and I don't expect White Raven to translate. I seriously have no idea whether they are needed for the Prophecy or would be just danger-attracting critters tagging along. The Vixen-like freak would be nice to have around, though. I sniff towards her.*

- /Gar/ You smell nice. You smell like awakening life. You could be useful. Can you heal me? We need a healer.

*With a glance towards White Raven I signal him to translate my words, but I leave the decision about the Pact to him. Finally, I try to speak directly to the fox-thing through Badger's Gift, but just like anything it's painfully hard now.*

*But those fox-like yelps I try to imitate fail badly; only weird, sickly wolfish sounds leave my snout.*

<I failed. Again. This place brings nothing but pain, woe and ill luck.>

*I drag myself to the snowy area and start rolling in the cold, soothing, fresh whiteness; I let the moisture clean my wounds and cool my burnt blisters... but I still try to listen to their words; hopefully the Twoleg-vixen is still around and can be heard.*

Characters present: Albrecht von Wulfhard, Sablepaw, Sophia d'Auxerre, White Raven.

*Upon the irritated snapback of Albrecht, all three fair folk are instantly intimidated, gasping and stopping for a moment. Needless to say, their passionate objections are not lagging far behind and are quick to catch up.*

-/Ger/ Wa-haaaaayt a minute! We never betrayed aaaaanyone!

-/Lat/ Like he says! Like he says!

-/Ger/ It was uuuuus, who were betrayed! Trying to muuuuuurder us for just doing our jooooobs!

-/Ger/ We helped you defeat the Firstborn! Do you know how ancient he was?! Like an über-elder vampire!

*It is done. The trio stops at the grove's edge, going no further than its last, enchanted tree, shouting their desperate words to the leaving Albrecht; and everyone else following him. He unties the reigns of his horse, and his spiritual companion immediately responds to his call.*

<Here, I remained. How can I help you, old friend?>

*He doesn't even ask whether he was victorious. It's a given. Every single time.
Meanwhile, at White Raven's next suggestion, another flurry of words arrives.*

-/Ger/ Pleeeease! We don't want protection against the bloodsuckers, we can eeeeeasily avoid them! We just want to band together with you against the vengeful Faeeeeeee! They will hunt aaaaaaall seven of us for what's haaaaaaappened here! They really wiiiiill!

-/Ger/ Protect us against our own kind! Let us secretly stay with you and only you will get the secrets! You can even trade them with the vampires for extra gain!

*The bearded warrior-type is reaching out from the trees, desperately holding his chubby hand extended towards the Garou. The vulpine weirdling is running in circles, highly agitated. The smallest one keeps jumping up and down while speaking/shrieking.
Yet, they approach no more. The group is free to leave them. And Sablepaw can finally have her snow now.*

<Finally I can see the end of the forest. I felt the walking longer now. Or just my mind plays tricks on me.>

*We are still walking slowly, I stay beside the wounded Sablepaw and of course our new friends. Albrecht walks fast and reaches the horses first. He seems to be in hurry.*

<There is no doubt he doesn't want to meet Helios. No matter what he was, he is a leech now. A strong one but still just a man who is afraid of the morning sun.>

*The little creatures verify my suspicion at last. So it is like a spirit oath.*

<We might need them and I should play along if we want to lure them to the Komtur. But I have no idea how that oath works. I couldn't fool a spirit and I can't fool them. I'd better translate Sablepaw's answer. Our only chance might be our "honour".>

-/Ger/ We want to help you but we can't defend you against a whole army of leeches. We won't swear on something we can't achive. Talk to the leader of the vampires and show him your potentials. He desperately needs your help if you are really know so much. We will be on your side to persuade him. We can't offer you more that that.

<"Who has already betrayed once will betray again." You mean life? Gaia? Or the Garou nation? I guess your betrayal "isn't the same". Silver Fangs betrayal usually isn't really betrayal. That's how they see the world...>

*I'd snort and snarl in my anger fueled by the Dead Garou's dismissal of my serious problem but my injuries make me tired. It's futile to convince him. If that rotten Spirit of him will be hovering over me like a buzzard waiting for a dying animal to perish, scaring all helpful Spirits away, I'll destroy it. Somehow.
I've warned him.
The Weird Ones keep on insisting of this Oath, making it really sound like a Spirit Pact. But neither me nor White Raven can make a Pact in the name of all of us and a promise we obviously can't keep is a failed Pact from the beginning.

I lift my weary eyes and my badly burnt muzzle towards the Shadow Lord again.*

- /Gar/ Tell them we can't protect them from the Leeches. What, do they expect the two... or even the four of us to keep the Great Pack of Empty Ones from destroying them? Even if Voice of Thunder or Sunset Mane could, we can't and we won't make an Oath in their names. Obviously.

*Now I'm in a severe need of healing. Following the eerie walking Garou carcass who... well, still saved my life and the Prophecy, I drag myself away. No matter how beautiful this place looks, it's too hot here and I need my snow to roll in!*

*Honestly I’m disappointed. I may have given myself into the sweet nostalgia, I haven’t seen any garou since a century, and I may have idealized them a little, if all of them were noble Silver Fang, but they’re far from it.
Not that I’ve expected anything from a Shadow Lord, White Raven acts as he should. He is currently discussing to let the traitors join even if they’re lying. What a spineless strategy. But he is a Shadow Lord, the lowest tribe of all, the one with a Totem to close to the Wyrm. No wonder he wants to band with traitors, nothing more is expected.

But Sablepaw on the other hand, I’m deeply disappointed in her. No wonder our tribe is the leader. This disorganized mass needs leaders and they have gloriously justified that. Take her for example. I’ve saved her life, my most valuable family treasury, my armor is in ruins because of her, she is no shape to fight either, and what does she do? Ignoring my sentence about the fae-folks and openly threating me and complaining. Mindless lupus, she has given up all her clear thoughts. My companion has done nothing against her, she is only blindly freaking out. It’s a shame. My answer is short, we will talk about this later.*

/Ger/ - Enough of complaining!

*I turn to White Raven.*
/Ger/ - No! Never! We should not! They’ve missed their opportunity to clear their names.

*I do not care that the faes will know I’m talking about them.
I look at Sophia if she is coming with me?*

/Ger/ - Who has already betrayed once will betray again.

*That’s my answer. Depending on her choice I’m marching out, with her or without her, because the day is upon us. I’ll make sure that the Komtur will never accept those vermins. So I’m off go out from this forest and I’m a bit relieved that we still have our horses. My plan is to get them and prepare them for leaving. Of course I hope at least Sophia will come and ride with me to reach our camp before sunrise.*
<L’argent, are you here my friend? I need your help, badly.>

Characters present: Albrecht von Wulfhard, Sablepaw, Sophia d'Auxerre, White Raven.

*The "things" seem to be somewhat taken by surprise by both the rush and the heavy arguments among the "werewolves", but nevertheless, their word-bearer immediately answers White Raven's question with much vehemency.*

-/Ger/ Nooooo, that's not how it woooorks! Moooost werewolves are honourable, but we cannot knoooooooow whether you, individual ones, are!

*Meanwhile, Albrecht charges forward with the noise of a wild boar and the Fae realize their opportunity might be slipping away. The taller, stocky creature speaks up now.*

-/Ger/ We need to do an oath, so that we can both know the other party won't break it! Our oaths are magical, and breaking them brings severe consequences. You can trust us, dammit, and we can trust you, but we can't trust a whole bloody army of vampires!

*Sophia and the Garou still hesitate in the woods when Albrecht reaches the edge of the grove. From the impatient sounds, it'd seem their horses are still nearby, where they left them.
Behind him, the trio of weirdlings still try to convince the others.*

-/Ger/ Soooooooo?

-/Ger/ Come on!

-/Lat/ Please?...

*I asked White Raven but I get an answer - a short one - from Voice of Thunder. Not that I really trust them; the Wyld also is... unexpected and they carry something from it. I like their realm but I'm not in such hurry to leave as the Leeches seem to be.*

<Hey, you came here for the Little One, now you just... leave? What do they know about us? Might the One they're speaking about be dangerous?>

*His answers aren't satisfying, but if I'm about to catch a Spirit of Dawn, it's urgent. Yeah, I guess he doesn't want to speak about them in Twoleg-speech, why is he carrying this form at all? Even for a dead and empty Garou it might be the weakest. Maybe a surprisingly strong Freak-Thing-That-Should-Not-Be works differently.*

<Protection? THAT thing protects you? From what?>

- /Gar/ Protection. Coming from a tainted Spirit.

*My snort is more painful than annoyed or surprised. He's dead and unnatural, after all.*

- /Gar/ Then tell it to leave me - to leave both of us - alone. To stay FAR from us and all PURE Spirits. I'll soon have to go to the other side once we're out of here. That tainted raptor's mere presence is making me weak and useless where I'm the BEST!

<And THAT thing made... whatever White Raven was trying to summon to scout for us - die.>

*I don't expect an answer. It's not a command either, but no matter how dead is this Thing, I hope he's not going to cut me from the Spirit Wylds and my Moon-given duties. I'm sure my fighting skills haven't impressed him - they were horrible since we got here. If he won't purge that sick Falcon out of my vicinity, I'll find a way to slay his "protector". Still limping from pain I look back at the Shadow Lord who doesn't seem to hurry that much. He also answers my questions. At least. Both of them saved my lives - meaning they're worthy and honorable things - but the Shadow Lord is alive, a REAL Garou. He's my companion.*

- /Gar/ Maybe? How should we know if it's not a cunning trickery? But if it's not... I'm definitely not able to protect them from Leeches. Convincing Leeches? The only Empty One I can speak to is Voice of Thunder and he doesn't seem to care! The Prophecy hasn't shown me anything about Wyld Dreamthings - yet - concerning our mission. I'm not sure they have anything to do with it and if not, I don't care about them. But if one should make an Oath, it should be the Leeches. Other Leeches would listen to them but would definitely ignore us. And what's with them hurrying so much?!

*The thing about the Wyld place being... endless, distorting itself isn't a calming observation. I'd better check this out. I'm in the most devastating and crippling pain I've ever been but maybe I still can smell...*

*Oh how irritating the chatter is. Childish.
For a brief moment, Sophia imagines using shadow to strangle the life from them. Those squeaky voices slowly being cut off...

Alas, a woman can dream.
For now they have to listen, and listen she does. The knowledge of the impending dawnlight stressing itself to her.

Honourable wolves? Please. She couldn't imagine the furious wolf beasts to know anything so deep as that. But... Pondering that, there was a lot more to them than the gleem of their claws and shine of their teeth. Given all they had spoke of so far, and all that she had seen in their battles. There was certainly more to them...

Blood. Yes, that would be welcome and given the look from Albrecht when it's mentioned, the thought is shared. Though likely more so for him given his state.

Sophia narrows her gaze as she looks back to the squeaky creatures. There was no reason to trust them. The fairies wanted us as a shield, that much was obvious. They would likely suffer against this... higher one no doubt.

Annoyingly they spoke the languages she speaks, she doesn't share the knowledge of that nonsense spoken between the wolves, the words being shielded from both her and the fairy folk it seems.
How irritating. *

-/Ger/ We need to go, now.

Sophia stresses these words, meaning the dawn is approaching fast. There is little if any, time to waste on bartering with the creatures.

The talk of magical items do of course lure her interest, but she keeps her mask of calm fixed in place. She wouldn't be able to say to the others freely her thoughts without them being shared with those annoying little insects.

She does however, speak the obvious.*

-/Ger/If "they" are coming after us we will need information from them. We could use the extra knowledge. If they cross us though, I and I'm sure others would be very willing to show them the consequences of betrayal.

*Sophia's azure eyes scan the creatures, one by one to make sure they know she means it. Eventually she looks to the others. They can't debate this for long. Sophia holds utterly no trust in the fairy creatures. But what trust did she hold in the wolves either?*

<So they consider us honorable. But what makes them think an oath more safe than a simple promise? Could this be the same as with spirits? It doesn't really matters as long as they come with us. We can negotiate until we meet the others... Wait! We should have left the forest by now... We are deep indside. Deeper than we were...>
*A stop for a moment to carefully look around. I'm sure we should at least see the border of that forest. Something isn't right! I keep it myself though. I follow Albrecht onwards suspiciously observing the forest.*
<Can they control this... realm?... Or they just know the way out while we don't... That would give them a great advantage in this "negotiation". First let's return to the conversation of the oath.>
-/Ger/ If you know that we are honorable why aren't you satisfied with our promise?

*Sablepaw is in miserable conditions. She will need to heal very soon. A healing spirit could also make me feel better to be honest. But not in this forest. I have no idea what would wait for us in the spirit world of this strange land.*
<Mistaking leeches with Garou? A leech-wolf-thing walks in front of us and we couldn't recognize it. Even after the signs! Dead falcon spirit... And he could hear us all along and I was too blind to see it. And that cursed sword I've seen... Does it have anything to do with his "life"? That is again a question needs to wait.>
*Sablepaw looks confused. We both glance at Albrecht. We were also as foolish as a hoofstock... And I hate that we can't talk privately. That dead Garou hears everything we say. At least we know it now.*

-/Gar/ They might be right. And even if they are lying we might need to take the oath. We should have already left the border of the forest... We might be trapped. But think about this. If the leeches want to torture and kill them...
<...would you break your oath to save them or risk the prophecy helping them? No... Wrong question.>
-/Gar/ ...could you convince the leeches to accept them in the name of the prophecy?

*I talk to Sablepaw but Albrecht can hear everything and I'm also interested in his reactions. What would he do if our oath turns us against the leeches? Is he still Garou at all? The dawn is rising soon and I'm curious what happens to him in daylight. And how will he react when it becomes sure that he needs those little irrtating things to leave and survive? Taking the oath is our decision but at the moment only the vampires have no time to talk.*

*I’ve gained clear evidence that this fae-trio is just scum, ignorant lowly-peasants. My face gives away no expression but in my eyes they’ve played away their last chance. Completely ignoring the most important questions is a very petty trick. More faeries will come? So be it. If they are strong that bunch of useless cannon-fodder will not help anyway. Secret knowledge, powerful magic items? I must laugh, if they were really that resourceful they won’t beg us for this oath. No, never. Maybe they’re jesters. Yes, the wolves are honorable except many tribes, for example, the Shadowlords.

It’s a joke, but yet they should not mention blood so many times. I’m thirsty and they look easy prey. I keep on moving as fast as I’m able right now. The dawn is coming. *

/Ger/ - Enough of this joke!

<Oh.. don’t start it again Sablepaw…>

*Sigh, she is really naïve.*

- /Ger/ - They are not.

*Even though it was addressed to White-Raven, I must reply. These fae-folks are far from being honest. But the conversation is not over yet. I’ve no strength for partial transformation so I have to answer in a Language the others understand too. Thanks Sablepaw for mentioning our only backup who is unhurt, it was really wise… *

<Cliath… bah.. is she really a cliath or just an inexperienced cub?>

- /Ger/ - Yes. I can. I know that. Protecting me.

*My answer is short. I’ll not discuss the details here.*

*The dreamthings keep following us. Good. But when they mention the Leeches I stop my painful limp and glance at the small loud one.*

<It was a good spy after all. But it's making a foolish mistake... how can they not smell the lack of life in Sunset Mane or in Voice-of-Thunder? But at least, the things it talks about makes sense. Twolegs and dead twolegs are deceitful, disguisting things. But the Alpha Leech can be trusted as the Prohecy showed me! And if he breaks his Oath, he'll suffer the wrath of Griffin and his brood, that's for sure.>

*The fox-thing tells us we're honorable. True. We, living Garou are. Voice of Thunder... he saved me but he's still to creepy and dead to be trusted. I drift my gaze, filled with my agony towards White Raven and even Voice-of-Thunder... at least he also understands me.*

- /Gar/ I have no idea what they're up to but they're as foolish as hoofstock. Mistaking Leeches with Garou...

*At this point my gaze fixes on the Beta-Leech, the Dead-Yet-Walking-Garou-Thing and I become confused. He fooled me and White Raven as well. Maybe he fooled the Leeches themselves. Now that's deceitful. When the tiny one mentions we - along with the Black Sign - will be hunted, I become nervous. If they are right,Wyld Dreamthings, powerful as the fire-giant may destroy our common purpose. But can they be trusted? How should I know?*

- /Gar/ White Raven...
*Even speaking hurts and my body language is far from correct, not to talk about the scent-speech, fouled by these horrid, burnt wounds*
- /Gar/ Do you think they're telling the truth? About ones like the Flaming One... tying to stand in the way of the Prophecy?!

*My determination overcomes my suffering. It's a crucial decision. If they are also deceitful, they will tell everything about our alliance to the powerful ones they're willing to overthrow I guess. If they're not, we shouldn't lose a potential ally.*

- /Gar/ If other powerful Dreamthings attack us and our quest without us having any knowledge about them, we're doomed. If they are honest, maybe we should make a pact.

<I must do everything for Griffin, but I need the Shadow Lord to decide. I'm too injured, exhausted and ignorant about these Dreamthings. They're not like Wyldling Spirits so I don't know what to do.>

*As we leave the scorched territory, fresh scents creep into my sensitive nose. I can hear the birds of Dawn singing.*

<Dawn... the spirits of Dawn can also heal! I should... I should go to the Spirit Lands. With all these wounds I'm useless. But... the Falcon. With stench of death and blood. It appeared when we met the Leeches. And it followed us when the four of us left the place with the carcasses. Maybe it's even here, right now. Voice-of-Thunder? He has Spiritual power, I remember that.>

*I turn towards him while slowly dragging myself out to grab the fresh scents, desperate to get out and roll in the snow...*

- /Gar/ The sick Falcon spirit. Does it follow you for some reason? If so and if you can talk to him, tell him to never cross my ways. To stay as far from me as possible. I'm of the Listening Moon. Most of my powers come from communion with Spirit Lands. And it won't let me do what I must do. And no pure spirit will come close if it hovers over me.

-/Ger/ Nooooo! It doesn't wooork like that! The blood-suckers don't honour oaths, only you werewolves dooooooo!

*The fox chimes in.*

-/Lat/ Yes. Yes. Honourable wolves.

-/Ger/ Much like huuuuumans, they keep breaking their words and theeeeeen they are surprised to see that there are consequences! Oy the aaaagony! But since you are allied with them nooooow, if we are under your oath-bound protection, they won't be able to huuurt us!

-/Lat/ And suck our blood. And suck our blood.

-/Ger/ Yeeeees! The hooooorror!

*The stocky one snorts again.*

-/Ger/ You're starting to get on my nerves, Lukas.

-/Ger/ Ooooooy! But anyway! Business! If you'll be nice and fluffy and adorable and do this for us - for us aaaaaaall! -, then we will not only be your eyes and ears and mobile library of secret knowledge, we will eeeeeven throw in a magical item of great power or two! This is the last offer! Remember: they knooooooow what you've done here and they wiiiiill hunt you for killing the Firstboooooorn! You neeeeeeed us!...

*The scenery, although devastated, still retains its majestic, mystical presence. As the burns fade into the distance and intact trees start surrounding the party again, this strange, subliminal feeling that they're walking through a beautiful, idyllic summertime forest returns to the back of their minds. Indeed, the air is much warmer here, grass still grows, and the pines are as green as the Earthmother's bosom itself. The first daylight birds have also begun their lovely chattering. Dawn is coming.*

*That fox creature is very irritating, easily fooled though. Or is it? Perhaps it just toys with them. It's difficult to tell with such trickster creatures. Sophia stares down to the fox thing, giving a light nod to her words of power. If they are foolish as they sound, it can't harm to add to that thought.

But the negotiations continue, despite the ticking of precious time.

There are many things to take into count, Albrecht and his... Condition being very high on that list. Care must be taken. It could be that she is alone with three that would willingly try to kill her only to further themselves. Perhaps it is just she who doesn't know about his condition.

Tick, tock, tick, tock...

Sophia snaps her attention to the chattering fairies. Deals and offers, something she should have experience in yet she has never, once had an experience such as this. How was she to compare?
The had said that they would share their secrets and this tempted her. Knowledge of power, powers that perhaps others don't know of.
Which is of course, their plan. To tempt with this. Oh but it was temptation...
Pity about how irritating they are.
To keep them safe? They were pitiful spies and no doubt they will cause more trouble.

Albrecht announces his leaving, the time is pressing and all of us can sense it no doubt. Her.. ahem.. "Companions" need aid and she was not about to let herself be claimed by the sun after such a battle!

Sophia steps after them, glancing to the fairy creatures.*

-/Ger/ Come, speak of what you offer to the rest...

*Sophia very much doubts that this will work, that they would come. They are impatient creatures and tricksters. If it does work it would buy a little time to think this through at least. If the Oath was made and they would do -anything- to defeat this supposed Queen, there are ways to get around this. Perhaps wording. But to be tied by such an Oath is certainly not wished...*

*The foxlike creature doesn't understand me or the Spirits. She doesn't even realize it's a language. I won't repeat what I said, that would be pointless, I just follow her, to lie down in her vicinity, to finally overcome the worst of the pain - and to lick my wounds. But I won't remove the dead tissue, that would make me yowl in agony. I'll live it to the maggots.*

<Snow. I want to roll in snow! That's what I need!>

*Sunset-Mane gives a false answer I suppose. Maybe she doesn't want these things to discover what she is. But can't they smell it? The lack of life-scents? The small one speaks too much and in a really annoying way.*

<So they want to help us against... who exactly? Is that the one that wants to punish them? Wyldthings aren't enemies of the Sign unless they follow us.>

*I don't want to make an Oath with them, since I still don't really get what's the point. And I have more important things to protect. The Prophecy and the Black Sign. And I need to rest. And roll in the snow. To heal... when Voice-of-Thunder starts to drag himself away I follow his example, though I don't want to get too far from my living companion. He says the Chosen of the White Radiance must swore an Oath, not us. I don't really care now. They could be useful but the yelling one is a lousy spy if it couldn't discover the fact that most of those ones are Leeches.*

I sigh. Too much talking on a tiresome voice. And it's getting to my nerves.

<An Oath to defend them? Why should we? Poor devils... Oaths are not to be taken lightly.>

-/Ger/ I've told you already. I want you no harm. But before such a... decision influencing all our lives, you need to talk to the leader... of the Black Cross.

<Not my leader of course.>

-/Ger/ It is his authority to swear such oath in the name of the crusade.

Albrecht asked the most urgent questions. Unfortunately I'm sure they won't directly answer us. All we hear will be useless craps about marvelous secrets. Of course I understand that they don't want to tell us anything before we grant their safety. But they have to make do with promises for now.

I promised them easily that I won't hurt them. Not just because that promise depends on their behaviour but also because after our unholy alliance, those leeches will accept these strange folks as allies if they know enough. So I walk beside them confidently. If they really know so much they promised us, they will live. If they lied... they will have a hard time to survive.
