I’ve been scouting for a vintage Mustang in the UK and I’m seriously considering shipping it over to Cape Town for a weekend cruiser.

However, I’ve heard that bringing a vehicle across the border can be a total bureaucratic nightmare if you aren't prepared for the costs.

I’m trying to get a clear idea of the south africa car import duty rates for older models, especially with the 2026 tariff updates.

Is there a specific rebate for vintage collectors, or does the government treat it like a brand-new luxury import?

I’d appreciate any advice from someone who has successfully cleared a car through Durban recently.
