Who is responsible for duct canopy cleaning in a commercial

I'm about to sign a lease on a small takeout property and the landlord says I am entirely responsible for the building's ventilation upkeep. However, the ducting goes all the way up through three floors of flats above us. Is it standard practice for the tenant to maintain the entire vertical duct run, or should that fall on the property owner?
