| I am visiting Funchal soon and really want to try some authentic Madeira wine. I know it is famous, but I don't know much about the different types or where to go for a good tasting. Are there specific lodges in Funchal you recommend? What should I look for so I don't just buy cheap tourist stuff? |

Madeira wine is unique because of its heating and aging process, which means it can stay open for months without spoiling and tastes totally different from regular wine. In Funchal, you should definitely visit Blandy's Wine Lodge or D'Oliveiras for a tasting. They offer great historical tours and have amazing old vintages you can try by the glass. For types, remember that Sercial is dry and crisp, Verdelho is medium-dry, Bual is medium-sweet with caramel notes, and Malmsey is very sweet and rich.
