Farm Diablo 4 Shard of Agony fast from Grigoire and Varshan, then cash it in for repeat Duriel runs in the Gaping Crevasse to chase Uber uniques without wasting mats.
If you're deep into Diablo 4's endgame, you've probably realised the real grind isn't levels—it's access. Shards of Agony are the choke point, because they're basically your entry fee to Duriel and the shot at Uber Uniques everyone's chasing. And yeah, people do take shortcuts: if you're short on time, some players top up materials and gear through shops like EZNPC so they can spend their nights actually running bosses instead of living in Helltide rotations.
What Shards Actually Are
Think of a Shard of Agony as a boss-progress token, not a drop you'll casually stumble into. The most consistent source is still Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint, and he's gated behind Living Steel. That means Helltides, chests, and keeping one eye on the timer while you clear events fast. Varshan's also in the mix if you've got the right summon parts, and it's worth doing because those runs feed into the Duriel loop anyway. Blizzard's been a bit kinder lately too—World Bosses and certain endgame activities can pay out if you're running the right setup—so you're not locked into the exact same two fights forever.
Farming Without Losing Your Mind
The boring truth is that "Grigoire spam" works because it's simple and repeatable. Farm Living Steel, summon, delete him, repeat. The trick is picking a difficulty you can clear quickly, not one that turns every run into a sweat-fest. If you're spending longer running back than fighting, you're doing it wrong. Groups help a ton here: rotate materials, keep the pace up, and you'll notice your Shard stack climbing way faster than solo. If you've got access to Kurast Undercity content and you're using the right Tributes, mix that in for variety—your brain will thank you.
Turning Shards Into Duriel Runs
Once the Shards are piling up, it's tempting to sprint straight to the Gaping Crevasse and start summoning. Don't. Duriel hits hard, and that poison will embarrass you if your resistances aren't sorted. Cap what you can, bring a setup that actually sustains, and aim for clean, repeatable kills. You want a rhythm: get in, burn him down, loot, reset. Pair your Shards with the right materials from Varshan, and treat each summon like it matters—because it does when you're chasing that one Mythic that refuses to drop.
When to Cash In
The best time to spend Shards is when your build's already stable and your runs are fast, not when you're "almost there." A shaky Duriel kill feels awful, and a failed one feels worse. Save a small batch, test a few runs, then commit when you know you can chain them without drama. If you're trying to speed the whole process up—repairs, rerolls, crafting, all of it—having enough Diablo 4 Gold on hand can make the loop smoother so your Shards go into kills, not downtime. |
