On Sunday, I blogged about the new Jordan Brand commercial featuring Russell Westbrook – a commercial that features a tagline of "Some run, some make runways." You can read that blog here. Many have taken the ad's tagline as a subtle jab at Kevin Durant's decision to go to Golden State in free agency,cheap jordan shoes, but it seemingly doesn't make sense considering the relationship between Nike and Jordan (Jordan is a subsidiary of Nike). Durant is one of Nike's most marketable athletes. Westbrook is the face of the Jordan Brand. So, I thought I'd seek the opinion of Nick DePaula, a writer for NiceKicks.com and The Vertical, who's as knowledgeable about the shoe industry as anyone. He's contributed to The Oklahoman before for a story I wrote about Durant's shoes. Here's what DePaula thought of the commercial, along with some insight as to how connected the Nike and Jordan brands actually are: "I'll be honest -- I was completely surprised to see the phrasing of the tagline. "I don't think there's any other way to read into it. The 'Some Run' wording definitely appears to be a timely reference to Kevin Durant's departure,cheap retro jordans. "Durant is one of the highest paid Nike Inc. endorsers and has been very loyal to the Swoosh throughout his career. In 2007 and 2014, he took less money on his shoe deal to sign with the brand, so it's very surprising that an ad seemingly taking a shot at KD would come from Nike's own subsidiary in Jordan Brand. ""In terms of the dynamics between brands, Nike and Jordan Brand are technically competitors internally,cheap jordans for sale, but they also share a lot of technologies and both brands are incorporated into tandem campaigns from time to time. Westbrook's shoe in the ad, the Air Jordan XXX1,www.findyourcheapjordans.com, ironically has a fading Swoosh in the design. "Since signing Russell in 2013, Jordan Brand has used 'Take Flight' as its featured brand slogan.
