Characteristics of nocturnal butterflies
Nocturnal butterflies are so diversified that it is difficult to give a general description. Many of them also fly in the daytime. Their antennae usually have threaded or feathered structure and they are unclubbed. Most species have frenula connecting their forewings and hindwings. Their structure is usually such that one or more barbs located at the stem of the hindwings connect into the eyes located on the forewings. Males possess one strong barb while females possess several thin barbs.
