Primitive man

In 1859, when Ch. Darwin published his work The origin of species, he already knew that three years before a fossil skeleton had been found in Germany, which was the remnant of a man who lived in the ice age and who had more primitive appearance than modern man. Therefore in his book he could refer to the fact that the laws of evolution also apply to mankind.

The first written pictures originating from the Ice Age were found in the Altamira cave in Spain in the first half of the 20th century. The walls of the cave were decorated with coloured pictures of animals, paintings about bisons, boars, wild horses.

Neanderthal man

300 thousand years ago the so-called Neanderthal man appeared.
In this age primitive men lived not only in Africa, but also in the area to the north of it, which had colder climate. The size of the body, for example the brain volume of a man living at that time exceeded the size of modern man. When compared to the 150-160 cm high homo erectus, Neanderthal man was a giant with their height of 2 m.
