Introduction
Pepper (Capsicum) is a genus of the Solanaceae family, which originates from Central America. The first pepper was brought into Europe by Columbus cook. The fruit of the plant is a hollow berry, which is rich in Vitamins A and C. The burning sensation is caused by an agent called Capsaicin. It is an important spice and medicinal plant. It has been grown in many varieties in Hungary since the 16th century.

Spicy heat
The measure of the spicy heat (Capsaicin content) of a pepper is the Scoville heat unit. Its value ranges from 0 (sweet) to 300000 (inedibly hot) units. The Scoville heat value of a pepper gives the degree of dilution when the hotness of the sample can not be detected any more.
