LOL yes completely mad - ive done the darwin > ambon yacht race and all i can say is..boats leave darwin with a crew that isnt put together on the docks for a very good reason..no one wants to behead anyone at sea because they are unbareable to live with and theres a lot of paperwork involved in coming home with one less crew member.or the same amount of crew just one fell overboard and we found the other one on a island with nothing on it
Crews on yachts that are going on ocean crossing races are almost always members of a sailing club and have travelled with the boat from their home port - ie I crewed on a yacht out of perth that did the Perth > Geraldton race then continued up the coast for the Darwin > Ambon race When two members of our usual weekly racing crew couldnt take the time off work to do the trip the first place we looked for other crew members was at the yacht club...)
