As I've said before, J2ME game publishers are interested in establishing long-term relationships with developers. This is a good thing because if you get one game signed, you'll find it much easier to get subsequent games out the door. The side effect, however, is that the publisher wants to see you as a committed developer of more than just a single game.

Along with this, you also have the issue of professionalism. If you look like you're serious and committed, a publisher is going to commit more time to developing a relationship with you. If the game isn't something they want, they'll be more inclined to tell you what's wrong and then take another look when you fix it. Or if it's just not something they're interested in, maybe they'll be more inclined to listen when you release another title.

The key to getting a publisher to believe you're serious is to be serious about yourself as a developer. If you're not an existing company, then become one. Establish a brand, create a logo, get a domain name, create a Web site, and always talk in terms of "we", not "I". If you're committed to being a leading J2ME game development house, they'll see it.
