About Eger
Eger, which is a medium-sized town in the North-East of Hungary is one of the most beautiful
places in the country. Eger lies at the foot of the picturesque Bükk mountains. This region is splendid
vine-growing area.

The Eger Castle is one of the major sights in our town. The tourists can take long walks
on the age-old bastions, can enter the ice-cold underground passages of the casemates.
The Turkish Minaret is one of the most valueable architectural relics left behind the Turkish invaders
Eger has two traditional centres: Dobó Square and Eszterhazy Square. In Dobó Square there are the Town Hall, the beautiful Chorch of the Minorites, which is famous all over Europe.

szterházy Square is the other centre of the city. The imposing building of the Lyceum can be found here, which is a college today. Originally it was intented for a university, but its foundation was prevented by the Habsburg Emperor.

Opposite of the college stands the Main Cathedral of Eger. It is the second biggest
cathedral country. László Pyrker, a former archbishop of Eger had the cathedral built
in neo-classical style. The church was designed by Joseph Hild.
