BIOGRAPHY :: MARIE FREDRIKSSON

Gun Marie Fredriksson is the female member of the Swedish pop-duo called Roxette. She was born in 30 May, 1958, in Össjo, Sweden. The family moved to Östra Ljungby when Marie was four. As a child, she always loved music. At the age of 17, Marie got some parts in a local theatre. Later she formed a band with her boyfriend - the band was named "Strul". They were trying hard to get recognition, but no record companies wanted to release their songs. The band shared the same studio with Gyllene Tider (Per Gessle's former band) - that was the time when Marie and Per got to known each other. Strul split, Marie formed another band called "MaMas Barn", but she couldn't achieve success with them neither. Per suggested Marie that she should go solo.

In 1984, she released her first solo album called "Het Vind" (Hot Wind) that brought her the desired success. Her next album, "Den Sjunde Vågen" (The Seventh Wave) soon became very popular as well.

Although she was busy starting the career of Roxette, Marie released her third solo album, "Efter Stormen" (After the Storm). After a few years of band work, she released her fourth solo work, "Den Ständiga Resan" (The Eternal Journey) in 1992.

In 1993, Marie gave birth to her first child, daughter Inez Josefine. A year later, she married Mikael Bolyos.

In 1996 she released her fifth Swedish solo album, "I En Tid Som Vår" (In A Time Like Ours) and gave birth to her second child, Oskar Mikael.

In the year 2000, Marie released a best of album, called "Äntligen" (Finally). The album and the first single (the title track) went straight to No. 1 in Sweden and stayed there for several weeks. The record was followed by a summer tour in the country, with a huge success. The biggest moments of the shows were released on DVD.

In 2002, Marie released all her albums in a box set, called "Kärlekens Guld" (Love's Gold). The remastered albums feature previously unreleased songs as well.

On September 11, 2002, Marie fainted in her bathroom and hit her head. She was taken to hospital where a brain tumour was diagnosed in her head. Although it was removed by surgery, Marie had to receive heavy chemo- and radio therapy treatments for a long time. By the middle of 2003, she recovered from her illness, and was able to sing the backing vocals on one of the songs from Per Gessle's solo album, Mazarin.

In the autumn of 2004 Marie released a brand new solo album - for the first time, in English. "The Change" contains 12 songs, co-written with her husband, Mikael Bolyos.
