Per
Håkan Gessle
is the male member of Roxette, a very talented musician:
he's a singer, but also a song-writer. He was born in 12
January, 1959 in the Swedish town of Halmstad. Before
forming Roxette with Marie Fredriksson in 1986, he had been
involved in several musical projects. He was the lead
singer, song writer and guitarist of Gyllene Tider, a
major band in the beginning of the
80s in Sweden. After several successful albums, the band
split.
Per released two
solo albums in Swedish, called "Per
Gessle" and "Scener"
(Stages) - with far less
success than he had with Gyllene Tider.
Roxette provided him quite a lot of work during the
following years, so he neglected his solo career for a
while.
In 1993 Per
married Åsa Nordin.
In 1995 Gyllene
Tyder reunited and the following year, they released a new
EP and a greatest hits album ("Halmstads
pärlor" - The Pearls Of Halmstad). They became
very successful, they were the biggest musical event in
Sweden that year. The albums were followed by a tour,
called "Återtåget"
(Retreat) around the country, after which,
Gyllene Tider split for the second
time.
In 1997, Per
released his third solo album, this time, in English.
"The World According To Gessle"
features the singles "Kix",
"Do You Wanna Be My Baby?" and "I
Want You To Know". The videos to these songs were
directed by Jonas Åkerlund, one of today's top music
video directors. Also in this year, Åsa gave birth to their
son, Gabriel.
After writing
songs for Roxette for a couple of years again, Gessle was
involved in a tribute project to The Ramones. Per recorded 3
songs from The Ramones, namely "I
Wanna Be Your Boyfriend",
"Sheena Is A Punk Rocker"
and "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment".
The songs were released on a CD and a vinyl single.
In
2003, Per released his fourth solo album, "Mazarin"
(Cupcake), this time, in Swedish. The album became gold
before it was released, and turned platinum on the week of
its relerase. In the summer of 2003, Per
was on tour in
Sweden.
In 2004 Gyllene Tider
celebrated their 25th anniversary with a brand new studio
album called "Finn Fem Fel" (Find Five Mistakes) and
a summer tour throughout Sweden. |
