26. 06. 2008.:
Today Marton Bagdi, our family-researcher, gave a talk at Central Library of the Science University of Lorand Eotvos (Budapest, Hungary). He was the guest presenter of the Hungarian Genealogical Association The presentation was about the method of familyresearching. It made a hit, 40 members of the Association were at the presentation. In this wise we want to thank Marton's tireless and self-sacrificing job.
29. 07. 2008.:
Dear Reader!
It is my pleasure to announce You that one of the gift deeds have been found. This gift deed is, which have been given by the general assembly of Bihar county, in 1752. Because it have been certified that the Bagdi-s have been ennobled by Andrew II. and Miksa emperor just re-ennobled the Bagdi-s in 1560. Not just informations about the ennobling have been found, but a really thoughtful familytree either. You can reach the Latin deed from Downloads page (titled: "Nemesi level 1752-bol"). Another newness is Marton's page: After the name of Bagdi (only Hungarian version is reachable). It's about the ancestry of the Bagdi-s and the history of the Huns and Hungarians. It leans on Prof. Lev Gumilev's writing and researching.
12. 02. 2007.:
Today, our prehistory flared again. A Transylvanian family-researcher, Mr. dr. Andras W. Kovacs, sent me some important documents. At first I want to share with the Reader, that Demeter Bagdi was the vicecomes of Kolozs county (South-Eastern of Hungary). I wasn't sure about it, but Mr. Kovacs sent me his document, out from their archieves. Secondly he sent a page out from Zsigmond Jako's - Bihar county before the Turkish destruction titled book. The author wrote about Bagd village, that "it appeared in the name of its owners, the founders of Peterhaza, that is the Bagdi-s, in 1290. Out from its occupants living standard, and the contacts of the gentrial-villages we can conclude, that it was like the gentrial-villages. Near by the mansions we can range in the bondage houses too. The wars of the XVII. Century destructed the village. Today (in 1940 - the Editor) we can find it with the name Hajdu-Bagdi, near by Nagyszalonta. Only Hungarians lived there, until its ruination." Everybody can read or download this scanned page from Downloads page (in Hungarian).

Dear Readers!
I hope that everybody noticed that our coat-of-arms had been found. It welcomes you on the Homepage, and you can download it from the Download page. The coat-of-arms can obtain its worthy place on the relatives computer or in printing, on the wall. I hope I could please you, because a familiar anonym pleased me, when he sent me the photograph. I want to notice here, I couldn't find our description of our coat-of-arms in Palmai's Description of Coat-of-arms. But after a day I got the miraculous e-mail. This gift deed with the coat-of-arms is from Gabor Bethlen the Prince of Transylvania, in 1615. It is likely that this is the gift deed which Lukacs Bagdi de Mezopanasz got (it is in the Royal Books - Librii Regii).
02. 05. 2006.:
From my dear friend Baron Janos Jozsef Gudenus, I got a blazon specialist's phone number. Zsolt Zsigray suggested me, that I should look for our blazon in Kalman Baan's periodical, titled Family-history Visitation. Or in Jozsef Sebestyen's book, titled Genealogical Booklets. Furthermore he advised, I should visit the Archives, and examine the letters between Bihar county's overlords (Duke Esterhazy's, Count Karolyi's and Count Tisza's) Familial Archives, because it is likely, that our ancestors (like curialis possesors) wrote letters to their overlords. If this is true, than the stain with the blazon is on the letter. Now this is my job. If I make an advance, I would write it on this page, if not than there would be a sad head on the family homepage.

Biography of Gyorgy Bagdy de Balazsfalva
He was born in about 1480. in Kis-Marja. Died in about 1545 in Balazsfalva. From 1541, he was the assistant of Boldizsar Bornemissza de Kapolna (captain of Transylvania), with Imre Vegedy the archdeacon. His father, Istvan I. was the episcopal captain of the fortress of Gyulafejervar. In 1482., Gyorgy Herbart de Szaszpatak and Balazsfalva pawned his lordships to Istvan. In 1499. Istvan bought Szepmezo, and he gave it to his servant, Albert Fekete. Szasz-Szepmezo's iudex was Istvan Szasz, who was the servant of Istvan too. Gyorgy used "de Balazsfalva", his place of origin, like prename (means that, where he was a landlord), from 1504. In 1510, Gyorgy was enrolled to Istvan's servant's properties. He built up his castle in Balazsfalva, in 1535., which is a T-based tower, which was let out several times. In XVII. Century, it was the property of the Apafi family, and from the XVIII. Century it is the Episcopal castle of the Orthodox Ecclesia. Gyorgy's wife was Sara Bocskai de Kismarja. Istvan Bocskai's (Prince of Transylvania) elder sister. They had 4 children: II. Istvan, Erzsebet, Krisztina and Margit (Mrs. Balassy alias Bello). Istvan II. inherited his father's ownerships, and Prince Bocskai willed him a lot too. But after his death, in 1607., (because he had no children), the Prince gave away his lordships to the Lonyay de Nagylonya family.
A view of Balazsfalva (There's the Orthodox Church on the right side and near by to the centre on the left there's the Bagdy castle.)
30. 03. 2006.:
It looks like our prehistory isn't so simple, that I imagined. Because in the XVI. Century, not only 1 Bagdi family lived, some of them lived in Arad, Bekes, Csanad, Szerem or in Temes counties. There are books for sources for this. Today, I accomplished my search in the Archives, and I want to share with the Reader some important data and fact: We can tell about the families, which left the mother country (Bagd village), in the Middle Ages, that they extinct and the Prince gave away their properties. For example Istvan Bagdy's (vice-comes of Arad county) family. He was the landlord of Bagd village in Arad county. His son was Gyorgy who had a tower-castle in Balazsfalva, and his son was II. Istvan. After his death, their properties had been given away by the Prince. In Bihar county, Peter Bagdi de Puspok died before 1608. His properties in Puspok village had been recoiled to the Prince. Tragical, how many strays on the part of the Bagdi genera.
Searching of the gift deeds:
Unfortunately, I didn't find any ennobling letter of the family, again, but I had some clue to start. This clue was that in 1883. and in 1884. in the Turul Genealogical Bulletin, appeared the list of gift deeds which were kept in the National Archives. On the List, I found Erdeos alias Bagdi family's gift deed (which had been brought out in 1639., the publisher was the Chapter of Gyulafejervar. And I found another entry on the list. It was Bagdi de Mezopanasz family's gift deed, some plus information for this one: Lukacs and his wife Katalin Konia and their children: Mate, Mihaly and Zsuzsanna got it, from Prince Gabor Bethlen. It begot in 6. June in 1618, in Varad castle (source: Books of Royal - Librii Regii XII. Vol. 64. page). The gift deed of the Bagdi family from Mezopanasz hadn't been kept in the Archives, they just registered it, but the Erdeos Bagdi family's letter, probably yes. Unfortunately the II. WW. had a momentous role in the life of the Hungarian National Archives. The Archives had been bombed several times, and after one of it, the Archives burnt down, so the letters burnt too. This was the cue for my search in the Archives. Probably the archives of the country may have something for me, but not now.
Kind regards, Balint Bagdy |
