Hector Tico Samuel Juan Torres was born in New York in October 7, 1953. He was into jazz music in his teens. Before joining Bon Jovi, he was an experienced studio musician: he had played on 26 albums by that time, as a drummer. He was introduced to John by a mutual friend, Alec John Such.

Besides being a musician, Tico is a well respected artist, his paintings have been on exhibitions since 1994. His works depict everyday life and events of pop music.

His first marriage ended shortly after he joined Bon Jovi. He later married Eva Herzigova, a Czech model, however, after three years, they decided to separate. Now Tico is married to Maria Alejandra. They are expecting their first baby around the beginning of next year.
